LINCOLN, NEB. - June 5, 2003: MindVision Software announces the immediate availability of Installer VISE(tm) 8.2.1.

Version 8.2.1 is a maintenance release that all current users are encouraged to install. The installer is available for downloading at http://www.mindvision.com/downloads.html.

The changes in Installer VISE 8.2.1 include:

• An Installer VISE 8.2 feature that required users to scroll to the bottom of end user license agreements is now optional. A new checkbox in the Text Files tab of Installer Settings determines this behavior.
• For installs on Mac OS X, Copy and Move action items now support long file/folder names.
• To allow line breaks between titles in forms, the Static Text editor now accepts returns.
• A bug fix allows entering the letter "v" into edit text fields of forms.
• A bug fix allows current shareware license holders to build installers that do not expire.
• Installers no longer report a -43 error (file/folder not found) when attempting to replace a package or bundle.
• To enhance application bundle searching, the following changes were made in regard to bundle version:
  • When checking for bundle version, installers make an Apple API call to CFBundleGetVersionNumber. That API call returns the value of the CFBundleVersion string from the Info.plist file inside the bundle. If CFBundleGetVersionNumber returns a zero, the installer will try calling CFBundleGetValueForInfoDictionaryKey, passing CFBundleShortVersionString to obtain the bundle's version. We have noticed CFBundleGetVersionNumber returns a zero when the CFBundleVersion field is three or more digits (as is the case with AddressBook.app and Mail.app).
  • Dragging a bundle from the Finder onto the Search Criteria area of an action item window will automatically set the bundle's version according to the rules listed above. That drag and drop action will also set the Return Parent of Found Item option, which is now necessary for proper replacement of existing bundles.
  • The Item Detail (top) portion and the List Columns (bottom) portion of an archive window now correctly display bundle version when the Version field is included on the layout.

NOTE: The changes that enable proper replacement of existing bundles apply to archives created with Installer VISE 8.2.1 only. Archives created with earlier Installer VISE versions will need updating before the changes will be available. For this, open the older archive with Installer VISE 8.2.1 and select Bring Up To Date from the Archive menu. Check the Update option for all bundles listed, even if the status is "<same>." Then click Update.
