Installer VISE for Mac F.A.Q.

This search utilizes single word or exact phrase functionality:
General
Q: Why do I sometimes see a .DS_Store file inside of a folder in my VCT?
A: The .DS_Store file is a hidden file that is created by the Mac OS X Finder. It is basically an index file containing information about the folder as well as icon positioning for the files inside the folder.

If one of the folders in your VCT originally came from a Mac OS X partition, the folder may have already had this file. Or, if you have done a Bring Up To Date, a folder which may not have had a .DS_Store file, may now have one if the Finder has had a chance to update and create this file in the source folder.

There are no concerns with this file being present in the VCT. You can delete them with no side effects because the Finder will simply create a new one in that folder after it is installed on the machine. But there is no need to delete the .DS_Store files from the VCT because they will replace any existing .DS_Store file with no problems. And because they are hidden files, the user never sees them.

Note that beside the .DS_Store file, there can be other hidden files created by Mac OS X that may be visible in the VCT. These too, have no effect on installs.
